Sergei Gonchar

Multi-Time World Champion, 20-Year NHL Star, Olympic Athlete and Stanley Cup Champion

Sergei Gonchar has won multiple Stanley Cups both as an NHL player and later as a coach. Currently, he is a Defensive Development Coach with the Vancouver Canucks. He was an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins (with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2009) and has played for the Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens.

Gonchar is a two-time Olympic medalist, winning silver at the 1998 Winter Games and bronze in the 2002 Games.

In 2004, Gonchar was traded to the Boston Bruins and racked up 58 points, leading all NHL defencemen. Between 2000 and 2004, Gonchar recorded more points than any other defenceman, with 74 goals and 241 points.

Gonchar turned to coaching in 2015, accepting a development coaching position with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Gonchar aided the Penguins defensive unit in back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2016 and 2017.
